Solarize Bloomington Phase 2 Has Begun!
Bloomington launched its first City-wide solarize program in January, 2017. Due to overwhelming response, a second round has been announced, giving homeowners another chance to go solar before Indiana’s net metering laws change at the end of 2017. To get started, interested individuals can enter their information right here.
SIREN and the City of Bloomington have completed a competitive bid process that brings down the price of solar installations, and also makes it easier for homeowners who otherwise might get bogged down doing all the research on their own. For Phase 2 the program is being offered to homeowners, businesses, faith groups and non-profits in Bloomington/Monroe county and surrounding counties (Greene, Lawrence, Morgan, Orange and Owen), and includes Duke Energy and REMC customers.
How to participate: The next Solarize Bloomington free public information programs are 5:30 p.m. Monday, July 17, and 7 p.m .July 27 in the city council chamber at the Showers building, 401 North Morton Street. You can learn about the cost, performance and availability of solar energy from SIREN volunteers. Walk ins are welcome or you can pre-register and RSVP at www.tinyurl.com/solarizebloomington2. Additional information sessions will be announced soon.
Here are some important deadlines to keep in mind:
- August 12 – Letter of Intent must be signed. This is a non-binding document indicating that you are serious about pursuing solar and ready to be contacted by the solar contractor.
- September 15 – Contract deadline. This is the last day to sign an actual contract with Third Sun Solar for this round of Solarize Bloomington.
- August – December – Installations. As soon as a contract is signed, Third Sun will initiate the installation process. Installations themselves will only take 1-4 days.
